Relaxation & Celebration! (October '09 Issue)

The weekends are quite typically designated for celebration & relaxation. The “celebrating” comes into play for specific reasons like birthdays, anniversaries, paydays, holidays, the list goes on and on. Sometimes there isn’t a reason at all, just a pure celebration of life! The “relaxing” comes into play for many reasons as well but sometimes it becomes the necessary ingredient as a product of celebrating (also known as partying), and not only as the weekend’s main goal. What better place to relax than at a spa?

Oasis Day Spa is one of my favorites. It is located off of 7th Street in Elizabeth, and just a hop, skip and a jump from Uptown.
They offer all of my essential services, such as:

• Their “Signature Facial” which includes extractions; there are also 10 other types of facials!
• Body treatments, like Reflexology and Body Wraps
• Services specifically for men
• Massage Therapy, including a prenatal massage
• Natural nails
• Peels/Skin Resurfacing Treatments
• Waxing (everywhere)

As most spas offer, there are also spa packages that can include most of the above in one sitting and for one price. Oasis Day Spa also offers Bridal Packages for the bride, groom, and/or the maid or matron of honor (Maids/Matrons of honor can be substituted for the mothers of the bride and groom).
Though reservations cannot be made online, gift cards can be ordered via their website, www.oasis-dayspa.com

My “grand finale” birthday (the age will purposely remain unmentioned) was celebrated in September and much relaxation was required after the events; instead I chose to relax in preparation for the festivities. In retrospect, a nice Swedish massage would have been quite lovely after the evening spent on my feet. Correction, after an evening spent on my feet in 4 inch heels. That almost definitely requires some rehabilitation the day after a night on the town! However, I thought it would be a nice way to prepare for the night on that Saturday afternoon. To wake up mid-morning, put on some comfortable threads & head to a spa where they give you the most plush robes ever worn & tend to your body’s needs. You end up leaving feeling refreshed and like a megastar, ready to take on the world! Or maybe that’s just me as I am certainly a fan of the pre-club pampering!

If I were however, to choose to do a little post-club pampering, I would definitely get a massage. Modern Salon & Spa also offers a variety of services and their massages are to die for as well! Visit their website to schedule an appointment, www.modernsalonandspa.com . They have a partnership with AVEDA products, so you can rest assured that their products will be made with pure & natural ingredients. Carmen! Carmen! Salon E’spa is also a local favorite (www.carmencarmensalon.com). Also boasting a wide range of services, their team is “highly trained, creative, and has a natural ability to understand the needs and desires of [their] guests.” They also offer AVEDA products and offer Hair services in addition to the spa basics. A couple differences I noticed with Carmen! Carmen! (as it’s referred to as locally), they are open on Mondays and are planning on offering Photography as one of their services.

One thing Charlotte is not lacking is the salon. I challenge all of you, man, woman and teenager, to visit some of our local spas and treat yourself every once in a while. Believe me, I know it’s a hard thing to keep up with but it is definitely worth it in the long run, especially for those with an active nightlife. Whether you choose to pre-club pamper or post-club pamper yourself, make sure you do it! I’ve given you 3 places to look out for; here are some other local favorites:

• Euphoria Salon & Spa
• Georgetown Day Spa
• Carmel Day Spa & Salon
• Shapes Salon & Day Spa
• Parvin’s Spa
• Ballantyne Resort offers spa services

Til next time…
